What's a gommage & why your skin could benefit
Gommage is a fancy word for a scrub that physically exfoliates.
The temptation can be to reach for something aggressive like sugar, salt, nut hulls -these have sharp edges and can make tiny cuts in the skin that are an invitation for infection.
At Alchemy we prefer something gentler on the skin.
We use the Komenuka* Cleansing Grains during facials to remove dead skin cells that prevent skin from drinking in nutrients and moisture.
To use the grains at home, simply mix a small amount in a bowl to a thick, barely damp ball (hint: the Double Cleanser is brilliant for this). Polish slowly with small back and forth movements along the jaw line, nostrils, nose and hairline.
If you still have some left, thin it out and use the scrub the thinner skin along the forehead and cheeks. Rinse. Pat dry and follow with a nourishing mask pack or moisturize.
*Komenuka means rice bran. The cleansing grains have rice bran, rice flour, rice bran solubles and essential oils of ginger, petitgrain and rosewood.
