conversations & the intimate pleasure of henna
Remember back to childhood sitting in a line to rub each other backs? Braiding your friends', hair; or having yours done. Simple, safe touch among friends. Sometimes after we partner up, we loose that contact with our companions. But I think we still crave that contact and ease. Touch feels indulgent, but really we need that form of physical communication for wellness.
Even now do you enjoy the light, dusting touch of having your make up done? Being fussed over and tended to? Having your hands massaged or your head? It's a little meditative, right?
Having your henna done is a little like that. Inviting someone to share the same space and quietness in a safe way. A little small talk, or delving deep - the gentle application process and the fact that we have to sit close and sit still is part of the appeal. How often do you really get to sit still?
