We generally think of Spring as a time of detox but autumn, as a season other season of change, presents a great opportunity to clean up before our systems slow down for the winter.
The temptation is to heat up the body too quickly. But fall is capricious; sometimes sixty, sometimes snowing. Literally fulling flames - causing imbalance.
Instead, we encourage balance by envoking the earth. Slow, intentional movement; hearty winter squashes & root vegetables; deep breathing.
The scents & seasonings for autumn are cardamom & turmeric, rosemary, saffron and basil. Body treatments and foods which favor these will help keep the body in balance.
Autumn at home mask & scrub:
1/4 cup garam flour (chick pea / garbanzo bean)
1 t. turmeric
5-10 drops (total) of rosemary, basil, cardamom or saffron essential oil
An Autumn Facial at Alchemy:
Your fall facial features lightly weighted blankets, and firm massage. Warm compresses on feet and scalp and aromatic oils engage all your senses to ground the body to elements of earth. Begin with a foot soak and awaken to the gentle sound of bells. It is the nature of fall to be blustery, inconsistent and too full of air. Pacify this unruly season with gentle cleansing; rich scent and rooted energy. Awaken feeling refreshed and energized for the coming season.
