Water therapy, a good soak and conditioned skin with this aromatic recipe
A luxurious soak sounds really nice about now. It's cloudy (again). It's cold (again).
In fact, Detroit is in the top ten of cloudiest cities in the lower US. One list said Grand Rapids was cloudier, but I don't believe it. Though, we don't have it as bad as Moscow. Six minutes of sun is all they had in the whole month of DECEMBER.
To infuse aromatic pleasure and partake in hydro therapy to get you though this last LONG, shortest month... I have this to suggest.
With the basic recipe, you can make countless variations to suit your mood by switching out the dried plant or essential oil combinations. Maybe change out the rose and ylang ylang for some lavender with patchouli or citrus.Or add some yummy herbals from a lovely tea to the mix if you don't have an easy way to get the rose petals.
I found all the ingredients locally. And nothing is super precious, but when blended together it makes for a great treat. Just special enough to feel special, but not so special you feel you have to save it for a special occasion.
The special occasion is now.
Salt soak + Scrub
1 cup Himalayan Salt (fine is best for scrubbing)
3/4 cup baking soda
3/4 cup citric acid*
1/4 cup rose petals
20 drops ylang ylang
20 drops rose absolute (in jojoba oil)
1/4-1/2 cup of your favorite skin-loving oil**
WHY a SCRUB?
Exfoliation is is the obvious answer. But also to get the fluids pumping! Gentle scrubbing stimulates the lymphatic system, which will help the body eliminate toxins and stagnation; freshens from the outside-in.
WHY a SOAK?
Skin conditioning, yes. Also, the salt has trace elements (including calcium, copper, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium and zinc) and the skin absorbs better than consuming the element. The salt is also anti-bacterial, soothing for joints and flights bloat.
Why not scrub, then soak?
NO SLIPPING IN THE BATHTUB.
* citric acid is also called Lemon Salt. I found it at Holiday in the bulk spices section)
** fractionated (liquid) coconut oil, almond, apricot kernal
