furoshiki. what?

creative fabric folding

Furoshiki are eco-friendly wrapping cloths used for gifting or practical things like shopping, carrying stuff. With a few twists a scarf can go from a pretty accessory to a purse.
Here in the US we may be most familiar with the bindle, iconic suitcase of the storybook 'hobo'.

The center graphic turns a large piece of fabric (like a small table cloth) into an over the shoulder bag.

Lastly sustainable gift-wrap. There are many books and online sources for creative folding around square gifts and wine bottles.

Look HERE for a super quick read on history and some creative uses.

I'm in love with the concept because it seems so revolutionary: use what you have at hand to make something that is aesthetically beautiful AND functional.

It's a little like innovating backwards. Folk wisdom, simplicity, accessibility and sustainability.

Happy Folding.
