What products do I use? People often ask about my own skincare...
As someone who has made skincare for myself for over twenty years, I’m VERY particular about what goes ON my skin. And I’m also super excited about all the wonderful options that the internet puts at my fingertips. Or when I travel, I seek out the quirky boutique and local goods's shop to see the other makers on the market.
I’m really NOT at ALL concerned with who gets a write up in which on-trend magazine or buzz feed or gets the super-star endorsement. Though I do care deeply about what my clients like, and I keep track of local influences because they have their eye on things.
I AM interested in making and using well crafted, effective, versatile, and aesthetically pleasing cruelty-free skincare. And I love to share these with my clients during consults & facials. This is a prime advantage of being a space that isn't beholden to one line: I can give your skin what it wants and needs.
Interestingly enough, most of my repeat clients are folks like me who also like to experiment a little bit. We also tend to avoid multi-national companies in favor of smaller batches, higher quality and small advertising budgets. And we want effective that smells amazing.
So who do I like? Most of my perennial favorites are small makers like ALCHEMY. Some are niche, natural and national.
There are lots of ways to find what's new or magical, and there are a lot of subscription boxes with a focus you might find appealing. I would like to endorse this one: BOXWALLA. Why? keep reading...
Brands I LOVE:
Many of these products I use in facial services at the studio:
Alchemy Cleansing Grains (Haldee or Komenuka as needed)
Alchemy Kintsugi Golden Repair Serum + Rose Hydrosol
Lalpaar 24kt serum
AMLY - Their silver rich sprays! Oh, my gosh - they smell divine and have gorgeous botanicals + trace silver for luminous skin
MUN - The serum is lovely, light, and absorbs quickly
Marble & Milkweed (everything! Especially the balms; they are super versatile. And the lip balm)
Providence Perfume - I love both the roses and Charna's Hindu Honeysuckle particularly, and the Provanilla is my best seller in this line.
H is for LOVE - Especially the Bara Balm. If your skin is particularly sun-damaged, or thinning due to aging, this balm is wonderfully healing and supports supple plumping. I passed this one on to my Mom, and it is relieving the dryness and restoring some elasticity.
A couple that aren’t pictured (because they were at home)... ANYTHING that LVNEA makes, I generally love. If you can get your hands on April’s seasonal boxes, I highly recommend them.
So How do I find out about new products?
BOXWALLA is the only subscription service I belong to. They are delivered in thoughtfully constructed heavy duty, reusable boxes. The boxes include full sized, cruelty free skin care delivered every other month. They have never disappointed. And truthfully, sometimes in that middle month, I think I should discontinue, but then another box of lovely skincare arrives and I love it all
You can expect some products to work better than others for your skin... For one thing our skin responds to the seasons, shifts in diet, changes in hormones and exercise regimens. Some products I have passed along to others and Some have been integrated into facial services at ALCHEMY. I have NEVER been disappointed.
The one new brand I'm excited to try?
Local Ayurvedic-focused aesthetician K. West has developed a line which supports the doshas. K West Skin Body Soul is about a balance of Ayurvedic wisdom and the newest technology. And I'm totally intrigued and can't wait to try!
